The Stanley Sports Association was formed in the Falklands to coordinate organized athletics in a settlement of fewer than 2,500 people — a population so small that a single association had to cover virtually every sport played on the islands. This crown was issued the same year London hosted the Summer Olympics, and the Falklands connection to that games was threadbare enough that the timing reads as opportunistic rather than commemorative in any strict sense.
