Issued to commemorate the June 1999 marriage of Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones, this Isle of Man crown appeared the same year the couple were created Earl and Countess of Wessex — a title revived specifically for the occasion, as Edward had reportedly declined a dukedom. The Isle of Man has long used its crown series aggressively for commemorative purposes, and royal weddings have been reliable subjects since the 1970s.
