| Additional information |
Gibraltar has issued Churchill commemoratives with some regularity, but this one anchors itself to the May 1940 Commons address — the "blood, toil, tears and sweat" speech delivered just days after Churchill replaced Chamberlain as Prime Minister, with German forces already cutting through France. The speech was four minutes long and contained no promises of victory, only an honest accounting of what the war would cost.
Gold-plated copper-nickel crown-sized pieces are a well-worn format for Gibraltar commemoratives and trade primarily as collectibles rather than bullion.
