| Additional information |
Sir Francis Chichester completed his solo circumnavigation aboard Gipsy Moth IV in 1967, arriving back at Plymouth after 226 days at sea. The Queen knighted him at Greenwich using the same sword Elizabeth I had used to knight Francis Drake in 1581 — a deliberate historical parallel that the Palace did not leave to chance. This crown was issued by Pobjoy on behalf of the Isle of Man, one of several commemorative pieces the mint produced for the island during this period as it aggressively expanded its collector coin program in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
