Additional information

Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic, holds the distinction of being the most remote permanently inhabited archipelago on Earth — the nearest landmass, St. Helena, is over 2,400 kilometres away. The island issues collector coinage through the British Royal Mint and associated producers, a common arrangement for territories whose local economies couldn't sustain independent monetary infrastructure. The whale shark, despite its range extending well into Atlantic waters, is rarely associated with the South Atlantic specifically, which makes its inclusion in this series a curatorial choice rather than a strictly regional one.
