| Additional information |
Issued in 1999 to mark the approaching centenary of Scott's ill-fated 1910–1913 Terra Nova Expedition, this Isle of Man crown belongs to the Pobjoy Mint's long-running series of commemorative issues for the territory. Scott reached the South Pole on 17 January 1912, only to find Amundsen had beaten him by 33 days. The entire polar party died on the return journey, with Scott's last diary entry dated 29 March 1912.
The Isle of Man has no historical connection to Scott — the commission reflects Pobjoy's commercial commemorative program rather than any territorial link.
