Additional information

Issued to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, this crown is part of a sprawling Pobjoy Mint series commemorating RAF aircraft types from the 1940 campaign. The Bristol Beaufighter entered service too late to play a significant role in the Battle of Britain itself — it became operational in September 1940, just as the Luftwaffe shifted to night bombing — but proved devastating as a night fighter through the Blitz that followed, with radar-equipped variants accounting for the majority of German bomber kills during the winter of 1940–41.
