Reverse description The central field depicts a grid of Chinese movable type characters referencing Bi Sheng's invention of movable type printing in AD 1041, with vertical inscriptions in Chinese script filling the rectangular matrix. An oval cameo portrait of Bi Sheng appears at the right of the grid, rendered in raised relief. The inscription FIRST MOVABLE TYPE AD 1041 appears vertically to the left of the grid, the name Pi Sheng in Latin script is positioned at the lower right of the matrix, and the series legend INVENTIONS OF THE MODERN WORLD arcs around the upper periphery.
