| Additional information |
Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit first appeared in print in October 1902, when Potter self-published The Tale of Peter Rabbit after multiple rejections from commercial publishers. Frederick Warne & Co. had turned it down twice before eventually issuing the trade edition — the very publication this coin marks the centennial of. Gibraltar's Royal Mint licensing arrangements during this period made it a prolific issuer of commemorative crown-sized pieces tied to British cultural properties, producing numerous series that had no particular connection to the territory itself.
