The "Norbert hatches" crown is part of the Isle of Man's long-running series commemorating the Manx Loaghtan sheep, a native four-horned breed that had declined to fewer than fifty animals by the 1950s before a concerted conservation effort reversed its trajectory. Norbert was apparently a named individual animal — a practice consistent with the breed's recovery program, where individual animals were tracked closely. The Isle of Man's crown series has been issued in extraordinary volume and variety since the 1970s, largely driven by collector demand rather than circulation.
