Issued in the bicentennial year of Trafalgar, this Gibraltar crown belongs to a wave of commemoratives that flooded the market in 2005 — the battle being one of the most commercially exploited anniversaries in British numismatic history. Gibraltar's choice to feature Bonaparte rather than Nelson is an odd editorial decision for a British territory, given that Trafalgar effectively ended any Napoleonic threat of invasion across the Channel.
