Reverse description Half-length portrait of Lord Alfred Tennyson facing slightly left, depicted wearing a wide-brimmed hat and a beard, occupying the right portion of the field. To his left, a relief scene depicts the Charge of the Light Brigade, with cavalry soldiers charging at full gallop, flanked by a quill pen motif at lower left. The arc legend THE VICTORIAN AGE appears along the upper periphery, with the inscription THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE in the upper left field. A cartouche in the lower centre bears the inscription LORD TENNYSON 1809-1892, below which the denomination numeral 1 appears within a circular frame, and the word CROWN arcs along the base flanked by decorative sprigs.
