Additional information

Tristan da Cunha issued this crown to mark the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar, fought on 21 October 1805. The island's connection to Nelson is indirect but geographic — positioned in the South Atlantic, Tristan sits along the same ocean routes that British naval dominance, secured in part at Trafalgar, kept open for over a century. The territory has produced commemorative crowns through the Pobjoy Mint for decades, typically timed to British royal and imperial anniversaries.

KM#43 is a circulation-quality copper-nickel piece rather than a proof issue, though collector demand for Tristan coinage generally outpaces any genuine circulation on an island of roughly 250 inhabitants.
