Reverse description The central field depicts a detailed underwater scene featuring three principal marine subjects: a jellyfish with trailing tentacles to the left, a large tropical fish rendered with finely engraved scales to the upper centre, and a stingray gliding across the lower portion of the design amid stylised seaweed fronds. A group of smaller fish appears to the right of the central scene. The curved legend YEAR OF THE OCEAN arcs across the upper field, while the denomination 1 CROWN is inscribed at the base, all within a toothed border.

Additional information

Gibraltar's late-1990s wildlife crown series was issued partly as a revenue exercise targeting the thematic collector market, a strategy the territory pursued aggressively throughout that decade. KM#747 is one of several marine-themed pieces from that run, produced in large numbers for the collector trade rather than general circulation.
