Additional information

The Isle of Man Treasury built one of the most aggressive sports commemorative programs of the 1980s and 90s, issuing crown-sized pieces across dozens of athletic themes with a frequency that drew collectors and exhausted them in roughly equal measure. Ice hockey was a recurring subject, the island having no particular claim to the sport beyond its marketability to North American buyers.

KM#851a is the sterling proof variant, distinguished from the copper-nickel circulation strike by composition alone.
