The Isle of Man Treasury has issued commemorative crowns under remarkably liberal licensing arrangements since the 1970s, producing pop-culture subjects that most sovereign mints would never touch. This 2002 piece marks the release of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets — the film, not the book — and depicts the scene in which Harry recovers in the Hogwarts hospital wing after the Whomping Willow incident. Warner Bros. licensed the imagery directly for the coin program.
The .925 silver proof crown format was the Isle of Man's workhorse for licensed collectibles throughout this period, issued in parallel with a base-metal circulation version under KM#1154.
