This crown is one of several Isle of Man issues tied to the Harry Potter franchise, released in 2001 to coincide with the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's first novel. The Pobjoy Mint, which has struck coins for the Isle of Man since 1973, produced multiple designs in the series across different compositions and finishes.
