Additional information

Haakon the Good, who ruled Norway from roughly 934 to 961 AD, spent his formative years at the court of Æthelstan in England — a detail that shaped his later attempt to introduce Christianity to a still-pagan Norse population. The effort largely failed during his lifetime, and Haakon died fighting at the Battle of Fitjar, buried with full pagan rites despite his Christian convictions. His connection to the Isle of Man runs through the broader Norse dominion over the Irish Sea world, during which Man functioned as a key node in the Scandinavian Atlantic network.
