| Obverse description | Right-facing truncated effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, rendered in fine relief. The portrait is attributed to the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy standard for the period. The circular legend around the periphery reads ELIZABETH II GIBRALTAR 2002, with the engraver's initials IRB appearing below the bust truncation. |

Gibraltar's commemorative output in 2002 was prolific to the point of excess — the territory issued dozens of crown-sized pieces for the Golden Jubilee, each pairing the occasion with a different historical or scenic subject. KM#1000 is a minor footnote in that flood of issues, struck in standard copper-nickel for general circulation-tier collecting rather than the silver proof market that generated most of the territory's commemorative revenue that year.
