Additional information

England hosted Euro 96, the first major international tournament on English soil since the 1966 World Cup. The Isle of Man Treasury was prolific in issuing commemorative crowns throughout the 1990s, producing themed series for virtually every major sporting event of the decade — a revenue strategy that generated collector sales far exceeding any circulation purpose.

The England–Scotland fixture at Euro 96 ended 2–0 to England, with Paul Gascoigne's second goal — a lofted volley followed by his now-notorious dentist's chair celebration — becoming one of the most replayed moments in the tournament's history.
