Reverse description The interlaced cypher of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh — the letters 'P' and 'E' elegantly monogrammed — occupies the central field, encircled by the Garter belt bearing the motto HONI·SOIT·QUI·MAL·Y·PENSE in raised lettering, the whole surmounted by a Duke's coronet. The crowned Garter device is flanked by crossed olive branches in high relief. An outer chain-link border frames the entire composition, with the commemorative legend DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD SCHEME arcing above and the inscriptions ·1956· ONE CROWN ·1981· arranged along the lower periphery, referencing both the founding year of the Award Scheme and the year of issue.
