Additional information

Issued on the fiftieth anniversary of the Normandy landings, this crown is one of several pieces the Isle of Man Treasury released commemorating D-Day commanders. Eisenhower's role was far from ceremonial — he personally delayed the June 6 launch by 24 hours after receiving an unfavorable weather forecast from Group Captain James Stagg, then committed to the narrow opening on the night of June 4th despite forecasts that remained deeply uncertain. Had he waited for the next viable window, it would not have come until late June.
