Additional information

The College of Arms received its royal charter from Richard III in 1484, making the 500th anniversary the occasion for this issue. Pobjoy produced the Crown in multiple metal variants, but the platinum striking at .950 fine was the scarcest by a considerable margin — mintages for platinum commemoratives from Pobjoy in this period routinely fell below a few hundred pieces.

Richard III's role as the college's founding patron is frequently overshadowed by Tudor historiography. The charter itself survived every subsequent reign intact.
