The Isle of Man's annual cat crown series, running continuously from 1988, documented a rotating roster of breeds each year. The 1999 issue featuring the British Shorthair coincided with peak collector demand for the series — Pobjoy Mint struck both copper-nickel and silver versions, and the programme was sufficiently commercial that individual breed selections were driven as much by global cat fancy trends as by any Manx cultural logic.
