The legend PRIVATEERING SHIPS OF THE SOUTH ATLANTIC curves along the upper left periphery, while the ship's name Black Prince appears in italicised lettering along the right field. Additional information

Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic with a permanent population under 300, has issued commemorative crowns since the 1970s — largely as revenue-generating collector pieces rather than circulating currency. The Black Prince series draws on Edward of Woodstock, the 14th-century Prince of Wales whose nickname appears nowhere in contemporary medieval sources and was almost certainly a Victorian invention, possibly derived from his dark armor or battlefield reputation at Crécy and Poitiers.

KM#24 is a collector issue with negligible circulation history on the island itself.
