Reverse description A heroic depiction of the Viking chieftain Godfried standing in the foreground, clad in chainmail and helmet, bearing a large decorated oval shield and a sword, set against a dramatic battle scene showing warriors engaged in close combat. A longship's prow is visible in the background to the right, evoking the Viking raid on Cologne in 881 AD. The curved legend 'THE BATTLE OF COLOGNE' arches across the upper field, while 'GODFRIED 881' appears on a horizontal rule at the centre, with 'PM' and '1 CROWN' inscribed in the lower exergue. The design is framed by laurel branches on either side.
