The Battle of Amiens, launched on 8 August 1918, opened with such devastating Allied success that Ludendorff called it "the black day of the German Army" — over 27,000 German casualties in a single day, and entire divisions surrendering en masse. The coordinated use of tanks, aircraft, infantry, and artillery in that assault is widely credited as the tactical template that ended the war within a hundred days.
Tristan da Cunha issues commemoratives under British Crown authority, giving it the constitutional standing to carry Elizabeth II's effigy despite a permanent population that has never exceeded 300. The island's numismatic output is aimed entirely at the collector market.
