Reverse description The reverse commemorates László Bíró, inventor of the ballpoint pen, within the 'Inventions of the Modern World' series, engraved by Philip Nathan. A circular portrait medallion of Bíró occupies the upper centre of the field, inscribed 'LAZLO BIRO 1900–1985' to its left, with the descriptive legend 'FATHER OF THE POINT BALL PEN 1944' arranged across the central field. Below the portrait, two figures are depicted in a workshop or assembly scene, suggesting the manufacture or use of the ballpoint pen. The series title 'INVENTIONS OF THE MODERN WORLD' arcs prominently along the left and upper rim, while the denomination '1 CROWN' appears in bold relief along the lower exergue. The entire design is presented in high-relief proof finish against a polished mirror field.
