Reverse description The crowned shield of the New Zealand arms occupies the central field, displaying four quartered compartments: the upper left bears four five-pointed stars representing the Southern Cross; the upper right depicts two sailing ships; the lower left shows a fleece above a wheat sheaf; and the lower right displays crossed hammers. The shield is surmounted by a Tudor crown and flanked on either side by ornate Maori-influenced foliate supporters incorporating stylised heart-shaped koru motifs. The date 1937 arcs above the shield, and the legend NEW ZEALAND curves below in bold raised letters, flanked by a central dot stop.
