Obverse description First laureate and long-wigged draped bust of King Charles II facing right, rendered in high relief with flowing curls extending to the shoulder and a knotted drapery at the truncation. The effigy is engraved in the bold Baroque style characteristic of the early Restoration milled coinage. The peripheral legend is divided by the bust and reads CAROLVS·II DEI·GRATIA, with a beaded inner border and milled edge visible at the rim.

Reverse description Cruciform arrangement of four crowned shields bearing the arms of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, disposed in the angles of a cross with the date divided above the uppermost shield. Interlinked royal cipher C's appear in the four angles between the shields, and a central Garter star occupies the centre of the cross. The encircling legend MAG· BR·FRA· ET·HIB· REX· reads around the periphery, separated by a beaded inner border.
