Obverse description Central device depicting the Ludovisi arms: an ornate shield bearing a crescent or horseshoe-shaped charge enclosing three vertical bars, rendered in relief within a plain inner circle. The surrounding legend in Latin characters runs along the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan, partially visible due to the hammered production technique. The overall style is characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century Italian minor coinage, with bold but somewhat roughly executed die work.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering ASTRIS • ET • AVST • SECVN
