Reverse description Saint Theodore, patron and protector of Monferrato, depicted on horseback moving to the left, clad in armor and bearing a lance couched downward. The saint is shown in the act of slaying a dragon trampled beneath the horse's hooves, a motif closely related to the widespread Saint George iconography adapted here for the Paleologan marquisate. The equestrian figure is rendered with dynamic movement typical of late medieval Italian hammered coinage, and the legend encircles the design in Latin.
