Obverse description Printed in sepia by intaglio and lithography. At left, a standing figure of Mercury serves as an allegory of Commerce; at right, an oval medallion vignette bears the portrait of Afonso Augusto Moreira Pena (1847–1909), 6th President of Brazil (1906–1909); at center bottom, a framed vignette of the Botafogo cove in Rio de Janeiro. The Arms of the Republic appear as a central watermark in the upper portion of the note.
