Obverse description Green and black intaglio-printed note on a fine guilloche underprint, with a portrait vignette of Christopher Columbus in left oval medallion and the national coat of arms of Costa Rica within a circular frame at right. The denomination panel at centre reads 'UN COLÓN' within an ornate cartouche flanked by two red serial numbers, above a text certifying silver deposit at the Administración de Rentas Públicas. The lower margin bears two manuscript signatures above the titles 'El Secretario de Hacienda' and 'El Administrador Principal', with the place and date line reading 'San José de Costa Rica' and the imprint 'American Bank Note Co. New York' along the bottom border.
