The Southern People's Bank (南方人民銀行) was one of several regional Communist-backed institutions issuing currency during the final phase of the Chinese Civil War, operating in the areas of south-central China coming under People's Liberation Army control in 1949. These regional banks were progressively absorbed or superseded once the People's Bank of China consolidated note issuance after the founding of the PRC in October of that year, which truncated the useful life of this issue to a matter of months.
Survival rates for these transitional southern issues are uneven — some denominations are genuinely scarce, others less so, and the S-prefix Pick designation reflects its status outside the main nationalist or communist central bank sequences.
