Obverse description Duke Wilhelm III of Jülich enthroned facing on an elaborate Gothic chair of state, holding an upright sword in his right hand and a shield bearing the arms of Jülich — a lion rampant — in his left hand. The figure is rendered in the high Gothic style closely modelled on the contemporary French chaise d'or of Philippe VI, with the throne flanked by decorative architectural elements. The surrounding field is plain, with the ruler's legend distributed around the periphery in Gothic lettering.

Reverse description A cross bottony centered within a quadrilobe whose cusped lobes are adorned with spiky, ivy-like foliage projecting outward from the frame. Quatrefoils occupy each of the four outer angles formed between the quadrilobe and the coin's periphery. The religious legend, a standard invocation of Christ's sovereignty, is distributed around the outer margin in Gothic script, separated by ornamental stops.
