Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Napoléon I facing right, rendered in a classical Antique style with short curled hair. The truncation displays a small imperial crown device, below which appears the engraver's cursive signature 'Tiolier'. The encircling legend reads 'NAPOLEON EMPEREUR', distributed evenly around the periphery of the field. The portrait is modelled with fine sculptural detail characteristic of Tiolier's early Empire engraving style.

Reverse description Central field displays the denomination numeral '1' above the inscription 'CENTIME', with the word 'ESSAI' (trial) below, all enclosed within a wreath of two symmetrical olive branches joined at the base. The legend 'EMPIRE FRANCAIS' encircles the design along the periphery, reading from the lower left upward around the right side. The overall arrangement is clean and formally balanced, consistent with trial strike presentation pieces of the Napoleonic era.
