Haiti's early republican coinage was chronically underfunded and inconsistently produced, with multiple administrations between 1828 and 1842 struggling to maintain any coherent monetary infrastructure. The copper centimes of this period were struck under President Boyer's long presidency, which collapsed in 1843 following a rural insurgency known as the Piquet rebellion — making the final years of this type coincide almost exactly with the disintegration of his government.
