Andorra has no mint of its own and no independent monetary history to speak of before the euro-transition commemorative program. This piece is part of a retrospective series issued decades after the historical figures depicted had any practical connection to Andorran coinage — Leo XIII died in 1903, and Andorra did not produce its own circulation coinage in his lifetime.
KM#306 was struck by the Monnaie de Paris under Andorra's co-princeship arrangement, wherein the Bishop of Urgell and the French head of state share nominal sovereignty — a feudal structure unchanged since 1278.
