| Obverse description | Facing bust of an African elephant, rendered in high relief with prominent ears, tusks, and trunk curling downward toward the lower field. The legend SOMALIA arcs along the lower portion of the field in bold incuse lettering, interrupted by the elephant's trunk. The engraver's signature ROMAGNOLI appears in small capitals to the left of the design, and the word PROVA is incused to the lower right, identifying this piece as a trial strike.
