| Obverse description | The iconic winged Lion of Saint Mark, symbol of the Venetian Republic, is depicted facing forward in a seated posture, its wings spread prominently to either side, with a nimbus (halo) encircling its head. The lion's right forepaw rests upon an open book inscribed with the Evangelist's traditional text, rendered in multiple lines within the field. The engraver's name A. FABRIS appears in small letters at the lower right of the design, with the mintmark Z.V. (Zecca di Venezia) below the lion. The circular legend GOVERNO PROVVISORIO DI VENEZIA runs around the periphery, referencing the short-lived Provisional Government of Venice, flanked by two small stars at the base. |
