Additional information

The 1892 Salvadoran centavo issues were produced to coincide with the quadricentennial of Columbus's arrival in the Americas, a date marked across Latin America with new coin series from multiple republics simultaneously. The piedfort — struck at roughly double the standard planchet thickness — was never intended for circulation. These were produced for presentation and archival purposes, typically distributed to government officials and foreign dignitaries.

Piedforts from this period and region are rarely documented in contemporary mint records, making attribution of exact striking numbers essentially impossible.
