Obverse description The obverse displays the national arms of Nicaragua at centre, comprising a triangular shield bearing a landscape of five volcanoes rising from the sea beneath a radiant sun, flanked by two crossed pairs of flags and surmounted by a Phrygian cap on a staff. The entire armorial device is encircled by a decorative wreath of laurel branches. The legend REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters, while the coin is bordered by a continuous beaded rim.
