Obverse description The obverse displays the Nicaraguan national coat of arms at center, depicting a triangular shield enclosing a landscape of five volcanic peaks rising above a calm sea beneath a radiant sun, flanked by two crossed flags and two crossed rifles to either side. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap atop a staff and framed by laurel branches tied at the base. The encircling legend REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA runs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters. The entire design is contained within a beaded border.

Reverse description The reverse presents the denomination and date in bold, widely-spaced raised lettering arranged across three horizontal lines in the open field: UN on the upper line, CENTAVO on the middle line, and the date 1892 below. The design is minimal and typographic, relying solely on the inscription without additional ornamental devices. A continuous beaded border encircles the entire reverse.
