| Obverse description | The Costa Rican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting three volcanoes rising above a valley with the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean on either side, surmounted by a radiant star and seven stars arranged in an arc above the shield. The escutcheon is flanked by laurel and olive branches tied at the base, and the entire composition is rendered in high relief against a plain field.
