Obverse description The Guatemalan national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring two crossed rifles and two crossed swords behind a decorative laurel wreath. At the center, a parchment scroll bears the legend denoting Guatemalan independence, dated 15 September 1821. Atop the shield, the Quetzal, Guatemala's national bird, is depicted in a perched position. The surrounding circular legend reads 'REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA' with the date '1986' and the independence motto integrated into the design.
