Reverse description The reverse presents a right-facing bust portrait of José Martí, the Cuban national hero and poet, rendered in high relief with fine detail in his hair and collar. The portrait occupies the majority of the coin's field, conveying a dignified and resolute likeness of the patriot. Flanking the bust along the upper periphery, the commemorative legend CENTENARIO DE MARTI arcs in raised Latin capitals. The birth year 1853 appears at the lower left and the centenary year 1953 at the lower right, separated from the legend by raised dot punctuation, marking the centennial of Martí's birth.
