Obverse description Central field features the Nicaraguan national coat of arms, depicting a equilateral triangle enclosing a landscape of five volcanoes rising from the sea beneath a radiant sun and rainbow, flanked by two crossed flags and two crossed rifles with a Phrygian cap atop the shield. The arms are surrounded by a laurel wreath below and a liberty cap above. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA arcs along the upper periphery, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.

Reverse description Plain field bearing three lines of bold raised lettering arranged centrally: ESSAI DE MONNAIE, the French inscription identifying the piece as a coin trial, with the date 1892 positioned in the lower portion of the field.
