| Obverse description | The Guatemalan national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a resplendent quetzal bird perched atop a scroll inscribed with the independence declaration date LIBERTAD 15 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1821, flanked by crossed rifles and swords and framed by laurel branches. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA runs along the upper periphery, with two small rosettes flanking the lower field. The date of issue appears in the exergue at the bottom. The entire design is contained within a fine milled border. |

| Reverse description | The reverse bears the denomination inscription arranged in three bold lines across the full field, reading UN CENTAVO DE QUETZAL in large incuse lettering with distinctive decorative serifs. The text fills the coin's interior in an arc-and-descending arrangement, with UN at the top, CENTAVO curving across the centre, DE in the middle field, and QUETZAL along the lower arc. The design is plain and typographic with no additional motifs, framed by a continuous milled border. |
