Obverse lettering REPUBLICA DE CHILE ·1853·
Reverse description The denomination UN CENTAVO is inscribed in two lines across the central field, enclosed within an open laurel wreath tied at the base with a ribbon bow, below which a small six-pointed star appears as a mint emblem. The peripheral legend ECONOMIA ES RIQUEZA — meaning 'Economy is Wealth' — curves continuously around the full circumference in raised Latin capitals, serving as a moral motto. A dentilated border frames the entire reverse design, consistent with the obverse treatment. The wreath, rendered with naturalistic leaf detail, imparts a classical republican character to the composition.
