Obverse description Central field bears a large five-pointed star in relief, rendered in plain incuse style without additional ornamentation. The circumferential legend REPUBLICA DE CHILE curves around the upper periphery in raised Latin capital letters, while the date 1853, flanked by raised dots, appears along the lower rim. The entire design is framed by a continuous dentilated border. The flat, unadorned field lends the composition a spare, republican severity characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century Chilean coinage.
